- The First Guitar Hustle: Watching Mötley Crüe’s “Looks That Kill” video on MTV and pushing a lawnmower around the neighborhood to raise $20–$30 (with his mom helping out with the rest) to buy a Peavey 10-15 guitar with the amp built right into the case.
- Fake Guitars & Air Jamming: Before getting a real axe, making fake guitars and running around the house playing along to KISS and Paul McCartney records.
- The First Real Gig (Toi Boxxx): Getting a call in high school asking if he could learn a 40-song set by the weekend at the Rendezvous Pub in Destin, Florida—and pulling it off by winging the ones he didn’t know!
